About the Journalist

Colin Daileda is a freelance journalist in Bengaluru, India. His reporting, essays, and photography have been published in Longreads, The Atlantic, Atlas Obscura, City Monitor, Deadspin (RIP), Earth Island Journal, Popula, Reuters, Roads and Kingdoms, The News Minute, The Ken, Hakai Magazine, The Washington Post, and others. Before Bengaluru, he was a reporter for Mashable based in New York City, from where he often traveled across the United States writing about state violence and social justice.

His freelancing has taken him from the cratered roads of the Himalayas up north, down to the flat lagoons of Jaffna, Sri Lanka. At Mashable, his reporting on unrest in Baltimore helped earn them an Online News Association award nomination in the “Breaking News” category.

His latest story for Hidden Compass is part of a series on humanity’s evolving and often confrontational relationship with water, and is supported by the Pulitzer Center.
