About the Journalist
Jenna Scatena is an independent journalist based in Istanbul and San Francisco. She has reported for American and British media from 21 countries in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, where her work explores the intersection of place and culture. She is an international correspondent for Condé Nast Traveler, and her stories have appeared in The Atlantic, BBC Travel, the San Francisco Chronicle, AFAR, O the Oprah Magazine, Marie Claire, and Vogue, among others. Previously she was an editor at San Francisco and Sunset magazines, on the faculty at The Book Passage Travel Writers Conference, and a speaker at conferences such as the Women’s Travel Fest and Global Wellness Summit. Her essays have been anthologized in The Best Women’s Travel Writing Vol. 9 and Vol. 11 (Travelers’ Tales) and An Innocent Abroad (Lonely Planet).
