About the Journalist
Hayli is a travel writer, photographer, and facilitator. While her roots are in California, she has found homes in the hearts of people in communities around the world. Her nomadic way of living has inspired deep soul connections while immersing in cultures and seeking the common threads of the human experience. After surviving a pulmonary embolism in 2012, no opportunity or adventure is too far-flung. Whether it’s trekking in search of orangutans in the rainforests of Sumatra, riding a motorbike through Vietnam, jumping out of an airplane, or walking the Camino del Norte in Spain, she believes there is always a story to be found, heard, cherished, and told. The ocean is her life source, but the mountains are regularly calling her to seek silence and solitude under the stars.
A sucker for all things vintage, her most cherished possessions (aside from her passport) are her Facit typewriter and Olympus OM-1. When she’s not scribbling away in a journal, you can find her often taking a wrong turn but ending up in the right place, browsing flea markets and used book stores, cuddling up to her dog Penny, observing orangutans at the San Diego Zoo, performing spoken word, attending comedy shows, drinking craft beer, or making friends with a stranger in a small corner of a cafe.
