About the Journalist

Mike Bernhardt is an award-winning writer whose stories have been published in print and online by Hidden Compass, Diver Magazine, GeoEx Travel, Deep Travel, Journey Beyond Travel, and Lamorinda Weekly. His poetry appeared in the book “Finding What You Didn’t Lose” by John Fox.

Mike is working on a book-length expansion of his essay “The Tides of War,” an epic story of the Moser parents and children during World War II. He has also begun researching his own mother’s life during the war and his grandfather’s exploits as a member of the French Resistance.

In 2021, Mike published “Voices of the Grieving Heart,” a book of 160 poems and short essays written and contributed by 80 people whose loved ones had died. He also facilitates a weekly support group for people grieving the deaths of their spouses or partners.

When he isn’t writing, traveling, researching or volunteering, Mike enjoys the outdoors, cooks Thai and Indian food, and mixes a mean cocktail. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife Yvonne and their two cats.
