About the Journalist
Anastasia is an investigative journalist covering Latin America, focusing on geopolitics and international relations as well as health, culture, and the environment.
For years, she worked with InSight Crime, where she wrote multiple award-winning investigations on corruption, organized crime, and the people who fight it.
At the end of 2024, she and her partner and fellow journalist, Douwe den Held, took their years of experience on the road. They are now cycling south from Colombia to Argentina, reporting from the lesser-visited corners of the Andes.
Through their project — OffMap Media — they aim to apply their expertise to remote areas and examine how big geopolitical issues play out in the lives of communities outside of the region’s capitals.
She has also written for The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Rouleur, and The New Humanitarian, among others.
