What is Hidden Compass?
We’re an independent journalism outlet and modern exploration society transforming the way audiences participate in journalism and exploration. We’re ending the era of junk food media by uniting audiences with the humans, causes, and possibilities behind award-winning stories and groundbreaking expeditions.

What is the Pathfinder Prize?
A nod to the past with an eye on the future. Inspired by grand expeditions funded by exploration societies of old, the Pathfinder Prize will award $15,000+ to a team of curious modern explorers.
But the prize won’t just fund a journey to the frontiers of discovery — it will champion diverse representation in exploration, a community-driven selection process, and a focus on powerful storytelling to share the voyage with the public.
The winners will set out on their expedition in 2023, producing field logs, videos, stories, and a presentation to be shared at a live Hidden Compass symposium at the end of the calendar year. The expedition team will work alongside us to inspire the public to celebrate and support storytellers and explorers of the modern era.
