About the Journalist

Tulsi Rauniyar is the 2025 Hidden Compass Storyteller in Residence and a 2026 Pathfinder Prize finalist. A Nepali photojournalist and documentary filmmaker, she brings an adventurous spirit to her work, travelling to remote and challenging corners of Nepal to illuminate environmental and humanitarian issues, an intersection that demands both critical thinking and heart.

Her reporting has appeared in outlets such as BBC Future, Foreign Policy, The Diplomat, DW, and Mongabay. From trans-Himalayan communities facing climate migration to Indigenous groups navigating human–wildlife conflict, her fieldwork emphasizes collaboration, cultural authenticity, and justice. As expedition lead for this project, Tulsi would travel into the deep Himalayas to connect with vulnerable communities, capturing their relationship with their environment with insight, nuance, and empathy.
