About the Journalist
Russell’s parents threw him in the ocean when he was five years old. He cried for a minute but then never got out. Originally from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Russell is a marine biologist, improviser, storyteller, writer, and nature lover. His special affinity for islands and travels for work and play has led him throughout the wilds of the tropical and not so tropical Pacific. He has written many scientific publications and has performed as a storyteller and improv actor throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Currently, he is the Director of the Santa Rosa Island Research Station for California State University Channel Islands.
