About the Journalist
Matty Feurtado (they/them) is an emerging visual anthropologist, writer, and documentarian from the UK whose work explores senses of place in rural settings. Their work is rooted in slow and sensorial ethnographic engagement, and a lot of walking. Their storytelling blends the unreal enigma of the visual medium with the tactile reality of the everyday that it engages with.
Matty specializes in documenting cultures on the edge of transformation. Their previous documentary, Madaklasht, Zende Boshi, traversed the remote, beautiful but flood-prone mountain community of Madaklasht in northern Pakistan. Their upcoming documentary uncovers the long-term medical impacts of bombing campaigns in eastern Afghanistan.
