About the Journalist
Lance Garland fights fire in Seattle, climbs the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, and sails the Salish Sea. In the moments between the action, he writes. His essays appear — or are forthcoming — in Outside, Backpacker, Mountaineer, Orion, and The Stranger, which listed his essay “Assaulted and Silenced” among the “Best American Journalism of 2018.” His lyric essay “Brothers in Arms” is featured in the 2020 anthology Earthly Love.
