About the Journalist

Alex Krowiak is a San Diego–based photographer working to tell stories of people, nature, and the changing relationship between the two.

Currently, he works as a certified photo instructor and naturalist with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions, using his backgrounds in biology and ecology to lead workshops and trips in destinations around the world. His chosen subject matters are the changing elements of the places he visits. Whether photographing the vanishing ice in the glaciers of Alaska or the migrating whales of Baja California, he hopes to inspire wonder and curiosity that lead to education and action.

In the past, he has contributed to Outside Magazine, The New York Times, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, among others. He has also been a featured speaker at the Boston College Arts Festival and the National Steinbeck Center’s annual Steinbeck Festival.
