Hannah Schoettmer
Hannah Schoettmer is a 2025 Pathfinder Prize finalist and expedition leader for “Scorched Earth: Australia’s Wildlife and the Devastation of Bushfires.” She’s also an award-winning filmmaker and writer who is driven by an ethos of radical empathy.

Hannah Schoettmer is an award-winning filmmaker and writer currently based in Los Angeles. Her writing and journalism work has or will appear in venues like The Louisville Review, The Indianapolis Review, The Seventh Wave, KUOW Public Radio, and elsewhere. Awards and support for her filmic and literary work include a fellowship from Brooklyn Poets, a Pushcart Prize nomination, a Best of the Net nomination, the Southern Exposure film fellowship, the Seattle Opera, and elsewhere. She’s the author of Body Panopticon, released in 2022. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California.
Previous documentary work centers the relationship between the natural world and the people most closely connected to it. Hannah’s filmmaking is driven by an ethos of radical empathy and a desire to platform and share underrecognized, important stories. These projects include “Kin: The P-22 Story” and “Alabama Roots.”
