About the Journalist
Edmée van Rijn, born and raised in the Netherlands, is an experienced freelance camerawoman, editor, and producer working across the Middle East and beyond.
She has a background in anthropology, sociology, and international relations, after which she worked at the UN and the EU with a focus on the Middle East. She then went on to work as a consultant for different NGOs before venturing into journalism.
She turned her hobby into a profession and has photographed for different media as well as worked as a producer for TV series and documentaries.
Edmée’s photographs have appeared in Dutch, Belgian and Swiss newspapers; Aljazeera; and Marie Claire. After working for mainly Dutch news channels, she currently lives in Istanbul and freelances for an array of European TV channels and the Associated Press.
Each winter, she travels to Norway to volunteer as a dog-sledding handler. During the summer, she rides horses, windsurfs, mountain bikes, and free-dives, amongst other outdoor activities.
